The $68 million in improvements will integrate advanced technology to shape steel pipes by bending flat metal sheets in a three-step process, according to the release. This meets a global standard and a demand for smaller-diameter pipes and thicker walls.
The release goes on to say the updated facility is set to commence operations in 2027 and will be the only U.S.-based manufacturer using the new technology. The new process will be catered to offshore projects, oil and gas companies, and renewables such as wind power.
Andrew Hicks, Borusan Berg Pipe vice president of operations, clarified that there would be no interruption in operations while the improvements are being made. The company is currently in the phase of ordering equipment, which will be uniquely poised at its Panama City location.

“Over [its] long history, the facility has developed significant expertise and built a dedicated workforce, which are crucial assets for our business,” said Hicks. “By expanding the production capabilities of the Panama City facility with newer technology, we aim to meet global standards. This will allow us to manufacture previously imported materials domestically, serving the U.S. energy infrastructure industry directly from Panama City.”
Hicks said they anticipate the new improvements will lead to an increase in trade relationships and employment opportunities. The broader range of sizes will allow them to be a domestic producer of pipes that currently need to be imported.
“We have an amazing collaboration with Panama City Port and (the local) Economic Development Alliance in our business,” said Hicks. “We have always received great support from both institutions while we plan and execute our investments and operations. We absolutely believe that this will continue as even stronger than before.”
