KANNAPOLIS — The world’s largest online retailer is opening a second location in Kannapolis and creating 100 full-time jobs in the process.

Amazon will open the additional site, in the 85 Exchange Industrial Park, at 6255 Shumard Street, near its distribution center, which is located at the intersection of Kannapolis Parkway and N.C. 73.

The new center will be a hybrid fulfillment and delivery station that will have the capacity to deliver items to customers within five hours of their order. The new Same-Day Delivery facility has 200,000 square feet and will operate 24 hours a day – seven days a week.

“We are pleased that Amazon has chosen to open a second location in Kannapolis and creating 100 new jobs in Kannapolis,” said Kannapolis Mayor Darrell Hinnant. “Their growing presence in our city is another sign that we are a top location for corporations in the United States. Over the last decade, we have worked to create an environment where businesses of all sizes can create their own momentum for success. We look forward to our continued positive relationship with Amazon.”

The Same-Day Delivery site enables Amazon to fulfill, sort and deliver orders all from one site — making the entire process of delivering customer package even faster. Same-Day Delivery facilities are finely curated to the areas and customers they serve, so product selection varies by city.

“North Carolina is a great place to do business and we’re proud to be expanding our operations footprint across the state through collaborative partnerships and our continued commitment to economic growth,” Amazon Economic Development Manager Sam Blatt said. “We’re looking forward to better serving local customers, creating job opportunities for the talented workforce in this region and appreciate the support we’ve received from these communities.”

The 85 Exchange Industrial Park was developed by Trinity Capital Advisors.

“Trinity Capital Advisors is excited to be part of the dynamic Kannapolis community,” Industrial Partner Jordan Quinn said. “With Amazon as a leading tenant, we are committed to bringing more investment and jobs to this growing corridor, as evidenced by our plans to provide an additional 1 million square feet at this location.”
