The foundation has established separate funds for each municipality within its region, allowing local communities to address their own unique needs. Each committee consists of volunteers who live in the town.
The “Greater Together Community Funds investment” gives each municipality’s fund $50,000 for grantmaking and $50,000 to be invested in its endowment.

This is the first of several major investments to commemorate the foundation’s centennial year in 2025, the organization said.
“The Greater Together Community Funds were created to engage and empower community residents; the people who are best equipped to respond to the needs of their towns,” said Jay Williams, CEO and president of the Hartford Foundation. “When we set up a program rooted in inclusion, participatory decision making and community resident leadership, we knew the work would be both rewarding and challenging.”
As of December 2024, the 29 town committees had made 659 individual grants totaling $2.48 million.
The Hartford Foundation created the program in 2019 with an initial investment of $2.9 million.
